Racing Simulators: Not Just for Racers

-Clay Wright

When I first heard the term "racing simulator," I imagined something akin to test pilot training. After spending some time around them, I can confirm my initial thoughts were spot-on. A racing simulator is a meticulously calibrated and specially designed piece of equipment, capable of replicating any car or track that's programmed into it. Imagine driving your dream car on iconic tracks like Laguna Seca or Daytona, feeling every detail through your hands and feet. I’ll be honest— if you're like me, you'll probably crash quite a bit at first. Despite this, the community at Wantec is always ready to lend a hand and offer genuine advice to help you improve your driving skills. Our community can transform a room full of racing simulators into an exhilarating twelve-person race, and you and your friends can do the same. These racing simulators strike a perfect balance between fun and functionality, offering driving practice while you and your group live out your racing dreams.

In one of my first months working behind the bar at WantecVR, a slow Saturday morning brought an unexpected visitor: an elderly woman who arrived alone. My coworker immediately recognized her and swiftly got her seated in a racing simulator. I was puzzled yet intrigued, and even more so when I learned the reason for her visits. She came in whenever she could to practice driving, as our simulators offered the safest behind-the-wheel experience for her. To this day, I’m not sure if she drove herself home. This experience highlights that our simulators are not just for those aspiring to be better F1 drivers or compete for lap times; they're for anyone who wants to improve their driving skills. And yes, you can absolutely do that in style.
