We as a bar are privileged to know Javier not only as a driver for Wantec Motorsports and our League Nights, but as a great friend. In only the year I've known him, he's shown himself to be an incredibly disciplined and modest driver while also being a blast to be around. You'll be seeing a lot more on here about our friend Javier as Wantec Motorsports' next race is around the corner. In the meantime, please enjoy this brief interview with our man Javier and stay tuned for updates on future events.
How did you first hear about WantecVR?
I heard about WantecVR through a Snapchat story from my friend Avery. He advertised a free MX5 league night sometime in March of 2023. I thought, "What the heck, I have my own sim at home, but I’ll give it a shot," and I'm glad I did.
What is your first memory at Wantec as a customer?
For me, it was coming in for a free MX5 league night and trying it out for the first time. I was rusty, but the atmosphere and the people at the bar made up for it.
What is your favorite memory of the owner, Stef?
Simply sitting and having a beer with him on multiple occasions and having great conversations.
When did you know WantecVR was here to stay?
When I realized the same people were frequently coming back every week, giving me signs that there were opportunities to be made from this.
What was Wantec like when you first started?
It was simply a hole-in-the-wall arcade, but over time it developed into the greatest hangout I could've imagined.
Why is WantecVR’s community worth staying with?
They are a fun group of people to be around, made of casual friends, hardcore sim racers, and those who simply want to have a good time.
What makes Wantec different as a bar, aside from our games and virtual reality?
What makes Wantec different from a conventional bar is… well, not much, lol. It is, to me, an arcade with a bar alongside it, which helps differentiate it from a normal bar.
What makes a “regular” at WantecVR, in your opinion?
What makes a regular at Wantec, from what I have seen, is the simulators. I’ve seen more regulars coming back, trying to get more competitive on the simulators more than anything, but also the fun, go-with-the-flow atmosphere helps with that too.
What is your favorite drink and why?
When it comes to beers, Weihenstephaner Dunkel is king, but when it comes to liquors, my favorite shot before every league night race is a shot of High West Bourbon. High octane before a race!
What kind of improvements are you wanting to see out of WantecVR?
I'm wanting to see new and creative ways to get more people to know who we are and get them attracted to WantecVR.
Be sure to watch Javier race this Wednesday night during our League Night stream on Twitch.
